Love the storms hate the damage. Nothing we can do about the destruction. There is definitely nothing wrong with being in awe of what mother nature can throw at us. Snowstorms and cold weather kill more people than tornadoes, but we still love snow.

You are correct that there was no tornado warning for Leeds, but a severe thunderstorm warning was issued at 3:23 AM CST, and the tornado struck at 3:45 AM CST. That is a subject for a whole other rant that I do not wish to engage at this time. However, there was a tornado warning for southern Jefferson prior to what happened in Leeds, and given that Madison County, AL, is the only county of which I'm aware that does subdivide into different regions for different SAME codes, anyone with a weather radio on the alert tone set for Leeds (Jefferson County) would have known of the previous warning, and, had they taken proper steps, been out of their mobile homes, given that it was only a short time between the tornado warning expiration and the tornado at Leeds.

For what it's worth, there was neither a tornado warning or even a severe thunderstorm warning for the Leeds, Alabama tornado. People doing the right thing, having their weather radios on alert mode, wouldn't have known a tornado....or even just a severe thunderstorm....was approaching.

Of course getting footage of severe weather can be beneficial, but the key is doing it SAFELY. The last time a tornado warned cell passed over my house, I left my camera filming from a tri-pod as I stayed downstairs. I got some pretty good footage that way, and without risking my life.

About 4 years ago, we got some nasty microburst winds, and the very window I film incoming weather from got ripped off the house and thrown through a car's back window 100ft away. The hail dents on that inside wall is a reminder of how dangerous it can get.

This is expected to dump some snow on the mid-atlantic over the next day; it might not make it over the Appalachians though in any significant form.
